How can I change/edit a published comparison?

You cannot change or edit published comparisons. Published comparisons have the status of a published resource and thus should be citable and referenceable, which requires them to be stable. However, you can always use a published comparison and create a new version of it. For editing a published comparison, click the "Actions" button at the top-right:

Click the button "Fetch live data"

Finally, click the "Actions" button again, and click the "Edit contributions" button.

Then click on "Continue" in the "Edit contribution data" popup.

I want to change the title and/or description of a published comparison. How is that done?

You cannot change and edit already published comparisons. Published comparisons have the status of a published resource and thus should be citable and referenceable, which requires them to be stable. This includes their title and description. However, you can create a new version of a published comparison and change its title and description along the way (see: “How can I change/edit a published comparison?”).

How do I add new terms (class resources) to the Open Research Knowledge Graph?

You need a particular term from a controlled vocabulary for describing a scholarly paper and this term does not yet exist in the Open Research Knowledge Graph. You can add it to the ORKG as a class resource (go to “View” -> ”Classes”, and here you can create a new class resource to which you can refer in your paper descriptions (“Create class”). For creating a new class, you have to provide the class label and the URI, if you are using a class from an external controlled vocabulary or ontology. After you have created the class resource, you can edit it by adding statements to it and assign an ORKG template to it. You can also import instance data for that class (i.e. individual resources that are members of the class - that instantiate the class) from a csv file.

If I delete a property that I originally added in one of my contributions, would it affect already published contributions?

It depends on whether the resource of that property is shared or not, when you click on delete a property in the statement browser, we only delete the statements within that resource and if that resource is part of many contributions, then it affect, otherwise it doesn't.

Can I add images and other files to the ORKG?

No, you cannot add images or other files to the Open Research Knowledge Graph. However, the ORKG allows embedding images from external resources. This works like the video embedding, if the url of the literal that you add to the ORKG that contains the link ends with png, jpg, jpeg, gif or svg, the image will be embedded in the interface. However, the external source must allow such embedding.

I want to edit a resource in a comparison and got this message: “A shared resource cannot be edited directly” - What does that mean?

You cannot edit resources that are used in another place in the Open Research Knowledge Graph, because any change of it would affect its representation in all these other places. In order to edit the resource, you have to visit the resource page (“View” -> “Resources”) where you can also see all the statements that use this resource and which would be affected if you change it. However, if you want a resource with a different description or with new properties, you should create a new resource.

How do I assign comparisons and papers to an observatory?

If you are logged into the Open Research Knowledge Graph and you are a member of the observatory, all papers and comparisons you create are automatically assigned to your observatory.

Why are some cells in my comparison during the “Map & edit” step of creating a visualization “Empty”, although the underlying contributions are not empty for the respective property?

If you have more than one resource or value linked to the same property, the visualization does not know which one to use. Cells with more than one value are thus automatically ignored by the visualization tool. But you can edit the contents of each cell during this step, in order to have the information shown that you want. This editing does not change the underlying contributions - it is just for the visualization.

How can I set up an observatory in the Open Research Knowledge Graph?

You have to get in touch with us (bottom page: “More” -> “Contact us”) and describe your plans with the observatory. Next, the following steps are required:

1. If not already existing in the ORKG, we have to set up the organization page for your organization. We need: organization name, link to homepage, file with logo of your organization (jpeg, jpg, png, svg), list of users of the ORKG who should be members of the organization.
2. We then need the following information for the observatory: observatory name, short description of the observatory, research field associated with the observatory (from the list of ORKG research fields), logo for the observatory (jpeg, jpg, png, svg), list of users of the ORKG who should be members of the observatory.

Is it possible to link an observatory to more than one research field?

Unfortunately, not yet. You can only connect an observatory to one research field in the ORKG.

Who can be added as a member to an Observatory or Organization in the ORKG?

Only registered users of the ORKG can become members of observatories or organizations within the ORKG.

Why does the visualization I created for my comparison not display the data correctly?

Sometimes the ORKG visualization tool produces an error message instead of the expected visualization. This usually happens when the comparison does not provide sufficient information to be visualized. You have to carefully follow each step (“Select”, “Map & edit”, “Visualize”) for creating the visualization. In the “Select” step, you select the columns that contain information you want to visualize. In the “Map & edit” step, you specify the data type for each of the selected columns. Only columns with specified data type (they show a green background color) will be considered for the visualization. If you only have a single column with green background or your columns are mostly empty, the visualization tool has not enough information to be visualized.
